Painting Our Environment Green

Painting Our Environment Green

Have you noticed that the neighbourhood has become a little more vibrant and lively recently? That is because our residents have gone the extra mile to beautify the estate by transforming rubbish bins and the surrounding areas into delightful art-pieces. In an attempt to change social behavior and encourage residents to not litter, Tampines Town Council collaborated with Tampines Kindness Movement to paint kindness murals on the walls near rubbish bins at the void decks of Blks 125 and 286 in Tampines. Mr. Yuen Kum Cheong was the talented artist behind the paintbrush for this visually attractive project, and he, with some other resident artists, brought a sense of ownership to an area where trash dumping was initially a problem at. Vivid colours were used to bring about positivity and kindness in maintaining the cleanliness of the shared living environment by refraining from depositing bulk trash and items around the trash bin.

This message was also echoed by youths and residents who added colours and fun environmentally-friendly messages to ordinary trash bins at the Tampines Youth Festival on 8th September. In a joint effort by Tampines Central CC YEC, PAssionArts at Tampines, and Craft Bay, these bins provided by Tampines Town Council were transformed into delightful art-pieces that remind the public on the importance of maintaining a clean environment.

It sure is heartening to watch the Tampines community come together to make a positive change to our living environment through such meaningful and beautiful ways!
