Made With Love and Compassion
In support of the President’s Challenge, PCF Sparkle Tots at Tampines North had organised a cupcake distribution at the nearby market on 22nd May 2018. Some 100 children participated in the activity, accompanied by teachers and parent volunteers, with hopes to build a more caring and inclusive society.
The children sported their orange ‘Start Small, Dream Big’ caps as they set about distributing the cupcakes with the sole aim of showing their appreciation to the hawkers and stall owners. And what a lovely objective it was! The sight of these adorable children walking hand-in-hand through the market in their uniforms brought smiles to the tired faces of both the recipients and passers-by alike.
“Every child that’s here today was involved in doing something, like putting in the chocolate chips in the cupcakes. This is for the children to understand the value of hard work,” shared Mrs Rasoo, a Kindergarten 2 teacher who led this initiative.
She added, “Every year, we organise something for the residents. One year we did something for Town Council’s cleaners and the children prepared food for them. The following year, we went to an Old Aged Home, and the next, we showed our appreciation for nurses and the children made teddy bears.”
Organising an activity for the President’s Challenge is just one of the annual events that the preschool children are involved in. On top of that, the children would bring vegetables either from the school’s garden or from home every Wednesday, to donate to ‘My Kind of Fridge’, a Tampines North initiative.
“It is just something that we do to teach the children what kindness is all about, and how to appreciate the people around us.”
